So here are a few exercises to try when you find yourself feeling less confident:

— Make a list of things you do like about yourself – maybe it’s your patience in listening to others’ troubles, or the way your hair curls – whatever it is, give yourself credit. You deserve a pat on the back!

Take time to do something nice just for yourself. Treat yourself to something or an activity that you enjoy.

Make a list of the things that you do well, and then do one of those things every day.

Try something you’ve never done before. Just taking on a challenge, whether you succeed or not, can increase your confidence.

And remember the words of Anna Freud, the daughter of Sigmund Freud and herself the founder of child psychoanalysis:

“I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence but it comes from within. It is there all the time.”
